Buttoned up for Bangkok.

The trip to Bangkok was shiok shiok shiok indeed!
My mother always ask me why I like to go Bangkok so much.
Well, it’s because of the cheap beer, great food and massages and all the amazing things to shop for there!
And this time with Buttons, it was really a great deal of fun too!

We reached there on Saturday night and immediately went to meet Button’s friend, Samuel at Siam Paragon.
It was kinda embarrassing because Buttons and I were dressed super shabbily,
and we were dragging our luggage all over the place in Siam Paragon.
Freaking looking like we’re 乡下 people!

Samuel brought us to this cafe called Greyhound Cafe in Siam Paragon.
What else can I say?
Buttons and I fell in love with the food there!
I hereby conclude that Buttons and I have been eating rubbish food for the whole of our last Bangkok trip.

The food there was really good.
Presentation was fabulous too!
They like to compare it with P.S Cafe in Dempsey Singapore,
except that the service and price there is much better as compared to P.S Cafe.
I love the Light Tom Yum Soup served with raviolli & Iced Milk Tea.
The ice cubes in the Iced Milk Tea are actually tea cubes!
This is a great place if you like fusion cuisine.

We then had tea at Vanilla, which is also located in Siam Paragon.
Yummy yummy desserts they’ve got there.

We checked in to our hotel at Baiyoke Suite after the great welcome dinner.
And I really love the room given to us!
It is smaller than the room I got when I previously stayed at Baiyoke Suite,
but the view was awesome because we were put at the 41st storey!
The price of rooms at Baiyoke Suite is also only a fraction of that at Baiyoke Sky Hotel.
So, we’re basically very happy. :)

Sunday mornings are reserved for Chatuchak Market of course!
Buttons and I love going to Chatuchak Market very much.
You can basically find everything here.
And if you’re going to Bangkok soon, remember to visit Section 3 of the Chatuchak Market!
That’s where all the little local designers’ stores are located at.

We also had a good dinner at Cabbages and Condoms located at Sukhomvit Soi 12.
The food was rather good, and it’ll be best if you’re going in a big group,
because the food there are mostly served in ala carte style.

And I love these pictures I took of Buttons. :)

For the rest of our days there, we visited the usual haunts –
Platinum Mall, Pratunam Market, Suam Lom Market and those few other shopping malls.
On the last day of the trip, we almost freaking MISSED OUR PLANE back!

Our flight is at 9.05am, which means check-in starts at 7.05am right?
We were supposed to wake up at 5.30am, go for the hotel’s breakfast, check out,
and then get a cab to the airport.
The average time needed to get to the airport from town would be between 40 to 50 mins.

BUT WE GOT UP ONLY AT FREAKING 7.30AM!

We were worried sick!
And were already preparing for the worst.
The check-out process was draggy and morning traffic in the central part of Bangkok was really bad.
Fortunately, the taxi driver drove at almost 160kmph all the way on the expressway!
And the entire journey took only around 25 mins!

We were the LAST TWO to board the plane.
THANK GOD!
Hahahahahaha.
What can I say? Life with Buttons is always a mad rush.

Alright, and something random to end the post.
We took photo stickers!
It has been a LONG TIME since I last took a photo sticker!
But Buttons and I both don’t know how to use those machines anymore,
so our sticker ended up looking really plain and ugly.
Damn.

  3. Hey! For your early flight did you guys just get a cab off the street or did you’ll arrange before hand?
And as regards the suits that Buttons tailored, were they blazer+pants+shirt? or just pants+shirt?

    Thanks again!

    • hello fifa, we just got a cab off the streets.
that’s because our hotel charges more if we use their limousine,
and they don’t help us call for a cab.
you can ask your hotel beforehand, if there are no extra charges,
then you should get them to get a cab for you. :)
the suits will be blazer + pants + shirts.

    • hello there saptenber! great that you’re liking the tips also.
but when it comes to traveling to bangkok, you should check out forums like flowerpod or les dames too!
there are a lot of gurus there! :)
      for this current trip,
i paid quite a lot for my air tickets.
but then again, it changes all the time, and according to different periods of the year as well,
you should check with your airline agents.
hotel is around $70 per night for the room (baiyoke suite) it’s a 3 star hotel but i think it’s pretty value for money.
transport + food + shopping totals up to around $700 for me.
the cab fare from airport to hotel should not be more than 500 baht, do note if they try to overcharge you.
and when you take a cab around there, make sure they use a meter as well.
especially with tuks tuks, they love to overcharge.
during peak hours, you might wanna consider taking trains or motorcycles instead.
motorcycles can weave through traffic and really can save quite a bit of time on them. :)

      have fun on your trip!

    • he spent approximately S$700 on 3 suits.
but that’s because he’s been there many times and introduced many people also.
it’s at Manhattan. Near pratunam area actually.
I like to go look at the local designer stuff at Suan Lom and Chatuchak section 3.
Not as cheap, but definitely not as common because it comes in limited pieces.
Per piece averages at around 500 to 600 baht.
For wholesale, you might wanna check out Platinum Mall.
Remember to buy undergarments also, the Wacoal there is a lot cheaper than singapore’s.

  7. Hi Peggy,

I love Bangkok as much as you do!
I visit there thrice each year coz I tag along with my husb on his biz trips.

I dined at Greyhound Cafe too and I love the food there. It’s our frequent dining cafe in BKK.
Vanilla is gd for dessert but their mains are quite disappointing.
You can find nice desserts at the restaurant opp. Vanilla too. It’s called Lenotre.

See that you had fun there. Great!

I’m your frequent reader and keep up your interesting write-ups!

Cheers & have a merry merry xmas!

  12. hi babe, can u provide a breakdown of the costs of the tailored suit? cors my bf intends to do just pants and shirts, so was wondering how much tt would cost at your tailor. TIA!

    peiqi

    January 3, 2010 at 8:21 pm

    • shirt and pants, depends on how many suits.
more suits then got more discounts lor.
one suit average should be around S$200.
buy more more bargaining power la. :)

  13. Hi, Do you know if Chatuchak market is open on friday? Thanks a lot.

    shan

    January 21, 2010 at 6:12 pm

    • they are opened on Fridays. But not all the usual sections are open.
they have days for “plants”, “wholesale”, blah blah.
So it’s still best to go on the weekends where they are opened to everyone and all the stores opened.
i’d recommend you not to go on weekdays. :)
